Worn-out bridge in Pasakha posing risk to commuters

The bridge over Bhalujhora River in Pasakha under Chhukha District has become outdated and in desperate need of repair. In recent days, one of the pillars supporting the bridge was collapsed due to swollen river.

This has escalated the concerns of the residents and employees of Pasakha Industrial Estate. Over the past few days, the Local authorities have barred heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks from using the bridge. Only light vehicles are allowed.

“We don’t have a car and it is not easy to cross the swollen river to reach our work place,” said Rupa Mongar, looking crestfallen.

Motorists are also worried that the bridge might collapse anytime soon.

“Over the past few days, the vehicle movement was stopped. If the entire bridge crumbles, we will face major problem,” added one of the taxi drivers, Sonam Tashi.

In order to prevent the entire bridge from tumbling down, the Construction Development Corporation Limited (CDCL) is going to build the gabions around the pillars.

The CDCL is also building a new bridge over the Bhalujhora River, which is next to the present bridge. It is expected to be complete before the onset of next monsoon. Until then, people there have to cope up with the present situation.
