Thimphu City FC tops table

Transport United’s quest to catch the Thimphu League leaders, Thimphu City, was dealt with a huge blow when Thimphu FC handed them a three-nil defeat, yesterday at the Changlimithang.

This is Transport United’s first defeat of the league campaign, leaving them four points adrift of the leaders.

Having already beaten Thimphu FC during the first round of matches, Transport United were looking to do the double over Thimphu FC. And they came perilously close in the opening ten minutes, Kencho Tobgay got two open heading opportunities, one hit the crossbar, the other went straight at the Thimphu FC goalkeeper.

That turned out to be the closet Transport United came to scoring in the entire match. Thimphu FC took the upper hand at the stroke of half time. Dorji netted his seventh goal of the season to open the scoring.

Lackluster Transport United conceded again in the second half. This time Tsenda Dorji was on the mark in the 68th minute to make it two-nil for Thimphu FC. Tsenda Dorji stepped up again minutes before the close of play to slot a left footed shot beyond the hapless Hari Gurung in the Transport United goal.

Three-nil is how it finished and the win take Thimphu FC up to second spot in the league, just three points behind leaders Thimphu City.

Six more round matches remaining and it looks like a three horse race for the league title. At the top, Thimphu City boasts a superior goal difference over the rest while at the bottom, Phuensum FC in seventh place and Tensung FC in eight are yet to register a win so far.
