OAG charges Indian man with voluntary manslaughter

The Office of Attorney General (OAG) has forwarded a voluntary manslaughter case involving a 26-year-old Indian man to Samdrup Jongkhar District Court, yesterday.

The man is accused of stabbing a 19-year-old young man to death. The deceased was also from India. The incident happened in Samdrup Jongkhar in February this year.

The accused stabbed the deceased following a fight between the two over an 18-year-old Bhutanese girl. The girl had dated the deceased before and was seeing the accused at the time of the incident.

The accused is a cook with a hotel in Samdrup Jongkhar and the deceased lived across the border but was in Samdrup Jongkhar on the day of the incident. He had come to play football.

The accused faces second degree felony charge, which carries a prison term of nine to 15 years.

The OAG is also seeking the court to make the accused pay a compensation of over Nu 492,000 to the legal beneficiaries of the deceased.
