PDP announces seven more candidates for upcoming NA elections

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) declared seven more candidates to represent the party in the upcoming National Assembly (NA) elections.

The former Cabinet Secretary, Kinzang Wangdi will contest for the seat of Bartsham-Shongphu constituency (Demkhong) in Trashigang.

The former Foreign Secretary, Tshering Dorji is replacing incumbent MP Dophu Dukpa of Kabisa-Talog constituency in Punakha.

The former National Council member of Samtse, Sangay Khandu is replacing Ritu Raj Chhetri of Tashichhoeling constituency.

Paro’s former National Council member, Kaka Tshering is going to represent the party from Lamgong-Wangchang constituency.

The incumbent MP of Drukjeygang-Tseza constituency under Dagana, Karma Dorji  is being replaced by former Dagana National Council member, Sonam Dorji.

Gongsar Karma Chhophel, the former Chief Environment Officer with PHPA is the party’s candidate for Radhi-Sagteng constituency in Trashigang.

Former City Bus Service Director, Sonam Dendup is replacing the current speaker Jigme Zangpo of Monggar constituency.

The PDP’s Secretary General, Sonam Jatsho said they will be declaring some 16 candidates in June. “Besides that, we needed about 18 candidates that we have already confirmed. The only thing that got us delayed is some of them are still serving.”

The Secretary General also said: “Now they have already put up their resignation but since they have to wait for about a month or so, their official candidate declaration will be done by next month.”

Since the Party convention in November last year, the People’s Democratic Party has declared 10 candidates so far.
