Less participating teams at Coronation Cup Basketball Championship

This year’s Coronation Cup Basketball Championship saw only 22 teams including five women teams. Last year, 46 teams including seven women teams participated in the tournament.

Bhutan Basketball Federation (BBF) cited less number of students’ participation as a reason for the less number of participating teams at the championship.

“Last year, the championship was held during summer break and 23 students took part in it. However, this time since the tournament didn’t coincide with the break, only five students are playing,” said an official from BBF.

Additionally, none of the national players are participating in the tournament since they are preparing for the FIBA Asia (SABA Sub-Zone) pre-qualifier match, which will be held in June this year in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, during the opening match on May 2, the team Pazaaps defeated Thimphu Magics.

In the second match, team Wizards defeated team Wolf Pack by half basket. And in the women’s category, team Taras lost their first match to Majas.

The finals will be played on May 19.
