Capital city gets multi-sports complex

The multi-sports complex, located at Babena in South Thimphu was inaugurated yesterday.

The Nu 38m complex was constructed by Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) with financial assistance from the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation. It took three years to complete the project.

This is the sixth sports complex in the country and the first in the capital city. The complex will enable athletes to play various kinds of sports such as basketball, football, badminton and table tennis.

BOC says such facilities are expected to accelerate development of sports in the country.

“Over the years, we saw swelling number of youth engaging in sports. So, I thought a proper sports infrastructure was needed to motivate them,” told Project Manager of BOC, Kinley Tshering to BBS News.
