Wangdue’s NC candidate files petition in High Court against NC elect

Passang Thrinlee, one of the National Council (NC) candidates of Wangdue Phodrang has submitted a petition to the High Court against the district’s NC elect Tashi Dorji.

The petition filed in the court on Tuesday, states that on the Poll Day (April 20), the Gup of Gase Tshogongm Gewog, who is the uncle of the NC elect’s wife spent the entire day at the gewog centre polling station.

The NC candidate also alleged that a village tshogpa of the gewog also visited a polling station at Changchey Masapokto for the whole day, taking pictures of the voters.

This, he said is not in line with the election laws, which do not allow any local government members to be involved in the parliamentary elections and stay within 50 metres of a polling station.

Passang Thrinlee further stated that Tashi Dorji gave Nu 10,000 to the people of Rinchengang Chiwog on January 31 for one of their religious ceremonies.

Recently elected Tashi Dorji is also alleged to have given statues to all the 15 gewogs during his previous term in the office.

The petition also mentions that the NC elect has given a bolero utility vehicle to the members of a community group.

When BBS contacted Wangdue’s NC elect Tashi Dorji, he said “I don’t have any comments for now.” Meanwhile, the Gase Tshogongm Gup over a telephonic interview refuted all the allegations against him.
