Morning attendance must for civil servants of GEOs in Pema Gatshel

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for smooth operation of any organisations. In keeping with this line of thought, the Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT) meeting in Pema Gatshel decided to have compulsory morning attendance for civil servants working at Gewog Extension Offices (GEOs), yesterday.

Staff of gewog extension offices in all the 11 gewogs now have to maintain their morning attendance register along with the staff of respective gewog administration offices.

The Zobel Gewog’s Gup, Pema Dorji said: “Some of us do not know when they are going to office or returning home from work. Some officials maintain the attendance register by themselves and sign on the names whether they come to office or not.”

The Gup added due to such issues, public have started questioning the efficiency of the civil servants. “As per the rule, the attendance of the gewog officials must be maintained together. We have to enforce the system from now itself. Else, we might face major problem in the future.”

His views were echoed by other local leaders. “Some of the officials inform us when they go out on tour while some others don’t. In such case, if mishap occurs, gewog admin would not be in the position to justify,” said the Khar Gewog’s Gup, Ngajay Dorji.

They, however, clarified that suggestion to have a system of morning attendance doesn’t mean they want to control the civil servants in the gewogs.
