Senior men cricket team in Thailand for ACC Eastern Region Cup

Bhutan’s senior men’s cricket team is in Thailand ahead of the ACC Eastern Region Cup. The team had played two warm up matches, losing to Thailand and winning against Myanmar.  

The Twenty 20 tournament starts on Wednesday.

Bhutan need much needed momentum going in to the tournament next week. After losing out to Thailand in the first warm up match, Bhutan managed to defeat Myanmar by three runs yesterday.

Batting first, Bhutan scored 113 runs in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Myanmar fell three runs short of the required target.

 “In the last two matches, what we have seen is the boys are trying to adapt with the wicket especially today, winning a match against Myanmar who played well,” Head Coach Damber S. Gurung said.

“I am sure the boys will lift themselves and our batting have to improve. That is for sure.”

“In order to win this tournament, we really need to gel as a team,” Tandin Wangchuk, one of the players said.  “I am confident that our team will perform well in this upcoming tournament.”

The upcoming international tournament is first in the past five years for the senior team. Bhutan will start off the tournament against China on Wednesday.

Hosted by the Cricket Association of Thailand, all matches will be played at the Terd Thai Cricket Ground.
