ECB declares April 20 as National Council poll day

 Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) declares April 20, 2018 as the National Council poll day for the Third Parliamentary Election.

Following the official declaration of the poll day, the ECB released the two month long election schedule, yesterday.

According to the notification released by the ECB, starting from February 24, the process of selecting the nominees from various Gewogs and Dzongkhag Thromdes will begin.

The last day for filing the nomination is March 19.

From March 20, the respective returning officers will undertake the scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by various candidates. The National Council candidates will then begin their election campaigns.

The election campaign fund of Nu 150,000 will be released to various candidates by March 22. The day will also be the last date for candidates to withdraw from the contest.

The candidates will have to end their election campaigns at 9 AM on April 18 in their respective areas, two days before the poll day.

The election petition period will begin from April 21 and will end on May 8.
