Shuttle time for over 25 teachers

More than 25 teachers from Thimphu, Chhukha, Samtse, Trashi Yangtse and Samdrup Jongkhar attended a grassroots-level badminton coaching camp over the last five days.

They were taught basic badminton skills including stroke, gripping, footwork and swing. The teachers will take these skills back to their schools and share with the students.

The coaching camp was a Shuttle Time initiative, a worldwide project to promote badminton at the grassroots level.

The Development Officer of Badminton Asia based in Malaysia, Sambenthan Sivaperumal, said more than 300 teachers have been trained so far under the shuttle time project.

“This program is successfully conducted in the schools. We can now see lots of children playing badminton across the country and in schools,” Sambenthan Sivaperumal said.

“With the help of Badminton Federation of Bhutan, we are also organizing many tournaments. This is an indication that Bhutan is really developing in terms of sports.”
