OL asked for his views on PM’s statement about more jobs than job seekers

People of Tseza Gewog in Dagana requested the Opposition Leader, Dr. Pema Gyamtsho to share his opinion whether Prime Minister’s statement about country having more jobs than job seekers is valid or not.

While meeting with the Opposition Leader yesterday, some of the villagers pointed out that during the previous parliament session, the Prime Minister stated that “There are only 2,511 unemployed youth registered with the Labour Ministry against 3,626 jobs vacancies announced.” Confused with the Lyonchhen’s statement, they asked the Opposition Leader’s viewpoints.

“We saw on National Television that our honourable Prime Minister was saying there are over 2,000 youth looking for job while there are over 3,500 jobs available. We are confused as on the other hand both the ruling and opposition are saying there is unemployment issue in the country,” said one of the local residents from Karling Dzingkha Chiwog of Tseza, Kaloo Dukpa.

The Opposition Leader said, if the foreign labourers are taken into account, then Prime Minister’s words are true. “But if we are talking about youth who have obtained degree certificates and haven’t landed jobs that match their qualifications then what PM said might not be true,” added Dr. Pema Gyamtsho. “In such cases, unemployment exists.”

Furthermore, the Opposition Leader said, whichever party forms the government, solving unemployment in the country must be their first and foremost priority. He even went on saying that solving unemployment may be a mammoth task but certainly not unachievable.
