His Majesty visits Rigsum Goenpa Lhakhang

His Majesty The King visited Rigsum Goenpa Lhakhang in Boomdeling Gewog, Trashi Yangtse and offered prayers yesterday.

His Royal Highness Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck also accompanied His Majesty. Lama Tshering Gyamtsho built the Lhakhang in 18th century. Later, the 3rd abbot of the Lhakhang, Lam Ngawang Loday constructed a bigger Lhakhang and installed Ku Sung Thukten including the main sacred statue of Jowo Shakyi Muni.

The statue was brought from Punakha Dzong. It was made by a famous craftsman and iconographer, Pentsa Dev, during the reign of 4th Desi Gyalsey Tenzin Rabgay.  Pentsa was from Nepal.

Rigsum Goenpa Lhakhang is located on a ridge overlooking the Boomdeling Valley and it takes about three hours to reach the Lhakhang from the nearest road point.
