New Kudung Paro, Kudung Tsho-Chen, Kudung Shar of Pungthim Dratshang appointed

The Venerable Dorji Lopen of the Central Monastic Body appointed Kudung Paro, Kudung Tsho-Chen and Kudung Shar of Pungthim Dratshang in Punakha dzong, yesterday.

The 40-year-old Sangay Jamtsho, is the new Kudung Parop. He joined the monastic body at the age of 9 and is from Paro. He has also received various oral transmissions from revered religious figures. Sonam Rinchen, 38, from Trongsa will now serve as the Kudung Tsho-Chen. He started his monastic schooling at the age of 13.

The Dorji Lopen also conferred Tashi Lekdhar to Wangchuk who is the new Kudung Shar. The 34-year-old joined the monastic body at the age of 6. All the new appointees have been serving at the Pungthim Dratshang in various capacities before taking up the new posts.

As in the tradition, every year, the Kundungs are appointed coinciding with the traditional day of offering.
