CDCL to construct power transmission towers of NHEP

To enhance Bhutanese expertise in constructing power transmission lines for hydropower projects in the country, the Construction Development Corporation Limited (CDCL) will construct some 57 power transmission towers for Nikachhu Hydro Energy Project (NHEP) in Trongsa.

The ground-breaking ceremony was held at Samcholing in Draagteng Gewog where the electric power transmission towers will be built.

The Nu 240 M project’s designing works will be carried out the Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC).

“The project involves planning, designing, and procurement of equipment. CDCL’s work is mainly to construct transmission lines,” said the Secretary of Works and Human Settlement Ministry, Phuntsho Wangdi.

CDCL officials maintained that the only Bhutanese workers will be involved in the assignment. “The 132 double circuit transmission starts from Mangdechhu dam site and ends at Yurmoo power house, which is about 20-kilometres in length,” said the General Manager of CDCL, Tandin Dorji.

BPC awarded the work to CDCL. As per the contract agreement, the project has to be complete within the next 18 months.
