OAG investigating alleged duping of people in Tsirang by PDP workers

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is investigating the alleged duping of public in Tsirang by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) workers. They are alleged to have promised loans and collected fees from farmers through a fake Rural Enterprise Development Corporation Limited (REDCL) office.

Since Monday, the team from the OAG started visiting the affected people of twelve gewogs in Tsirang to conduct the investigation. Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay had requested the OAG to conduct a detailed investigation but without consulting him earlier this month.

The case surfaced sometime in late 2016, when PDP’s Member of Parliament, Novin Darlami, allegedly deputed a person to function as REDCL official. Following a complaint regarding the matter, the ACC conducted an investigation, and cleared the MP of all charges in April last year.

The issue was raised again during the Opposition Leader, Dr Pema Gyamtsho’s, gewog visit to Tsirang, last month. The Opposition Leader, on 4 January wrote to the ACC to investigate the legality of establishing such an office on behalf of a government agency. The opposition also requested to see if affected people could be given loan or refunded on all expenses.
