Druk Gaki Tshogpa held its first party convention

Although not yet registered with the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB), Druk Gaki Tshogpa (DGT), an aspiring political party, held its first party convention in Thimphu yesterday.

The party’s founder, Chheku Dukpa, in an uncontested election, was elected as the Party President. Chheku, a Civil Engineer by profession, is from Nanong Gewog in Pema Gatshel. Of about 64 party supporters present at the convention, 54 voted in favour of him as the President of DGT. “The motive behind forming a new party is not only to participate in the upcoming election. It is to serve the government with all our heart,” added the newly elected President. “Let us not focus on personal wellbeing only but work for the nation and always put national interest first.”

DGT President is confident of his party completing the registration process with the ECB on time. “As of now, there are five registered political parties in the country and all of them registered quite late. They only had 3-4 months left to register for the election. As for us, we still have lot of time. I feel we will be able to submit all our documents to ECB within next 10 days.”

During the convention, the party revealed a few of its aspiring candidates who will represent Druk Gaki Tshogpa from various constituencies. The party members also discussed about their party charter.
