Thimphu Thromde to have better communal infrastructure by mid-year

Most places in Thimphu will have better public infrastructure from the mid of this year. Thromde officials said going by the progress of current construction works, they will not have to race against the clock to finish the work.

Most of the construction works have to complete by this June. Works include road widening and resurfacing, improving drainage system, footpaths and water supply schemes across the Thromde.

While reviewing the work progress on Tuesday, Thrompon briefed contractors to speed up the works without compromising the quality. “We requested the contractors to complete the work in May or June before the onset of rainy season. They have to plan accordingly so that blacktopping works can be completed in February, March and April,” said Thrompon Kinlay Dorjee. “Maybe drainage works, drains and footpaths can be taken after they finish the blacktopping works.”

Most contractors are optimistic about their construction deadlines. But a few of them said, people living in construction areas create unnecessary problems for a small inconveniences caused while carrying out their assigned works. Regarding this, thromde has decided to demolish some private infrastructure hampering the works. “Construction works should be kept on pending when some people create unnecessary restrictions. If we listen to them, our works will not finish on time. Some people, they encroach on government land and don’t allow us to work. In some cases, they say constructing road near their residences disturb their tranquility. I cannot tolerate such excuses; works should go as planned,” added Thrompon Kinlay.

The Asian Development Bank, Governments of Bhutan and India are funding the projects.
