Changjiji Bus Information System proves useful

The Bus Information System at Changjiji, the only one in Thimphu, is proving useful for the residents who rely on city bus services for daily commute between their home and work place.

Catching a bus is no longer guesswork as all information related to bus location and timing is now displayed on the screen. “Earlier, when there was no such machine in place, it was difficult to locate where the bus has reached,” Tshering Dendup said.

“Now, we know where it is and what time it would arrive here. It would be helpful if more such machines are installed in other areas.”

“It is a lot convenient for us. In the past, we had to wait not knowing when the bus would show up. Sometimes, we would have arrived very early. Other times, the bus would have left already,” Hari Maya said.

The Bus Information System was launched last month as a pilot project.

The project, an initiative of the National Environment Commission (NEC) and the Green Technology Centre of South Korea, is a part of wider efforts to improve and promote the use of public transport services.
