One of the two BCSE candidates who tested positive for drug cleared on medical grounds

Two BCSE selected candidates tested positive during the mandatory pre-employment drug test for recruitment into civil service conducted last month. Of the two, the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC) has reconsidered one on medical grounds.

A RCSC official said the candidate was under medication and the drug prescribed is among the Bhutan Narcotics Control Authority’s (BNCA) controlled drug list.

The test kit used detects ten different drugs including marijuana, ketamine, cocaine, benzodiazepines, tramadol and propoxyphene. “Of the ten drugs, four, including marijuana and cocaine, are completely illegal,” Sonam Tashi, BNCA’s Assistant Program Officer told BBS.

“Six are prescribed drugs, which are also abused.”

The RCSC, meanwhile, has not heard of any medical reasoning from the other candidate.

The commission carried out last month’s drug test in collaboration with BNCA to maintain a drug-free civil service and support national effort in curbing drug use.
