Camp Raven in Thimphu attracts over 600 students

Over 600 students are taking part in the ongoing seventh edition of the Camp Raven in Thimphu. The participants are the children of the members of armed forces.

Today, at the Dechencholing football ground, participants learned zumba fitness dance, and the basics of yoga.

The children also get opportunity to play team sports like football, basketball, and volleyball. Meeting local celebrities, listening to stories, and learning gunfire are among other events the children of Royal Bhutan Army, Royal Bhutan Police and Royal Body Guard are involved in.

For the children, the Camp Raven is an opportunity to learn new skills and make new friends.

“The camp helped us to stay away from substance abuse and bad company,” a student of Nima Higher Secondary School, Nima Dorji said.

“We get opportunities to learn what we don’t know and showcase our talents,” said another participant, Yeshi Dema of Losel Gyatsho Academy in Gelegphu.

The programme is also an opportune moment for people like Penjor Gyeltshen to volunteer their time.

“Keeping our young children occupied during the winter is very good way of not just improving their skills but also keeping our children occupied so, that they learn lot of things from the camp,” said a teacher of Lungtenzampa MSS, Penjor Gyeltshen.

A sports day will be organised to bring together the children of the three armed forces before the camp concludes on December 30.
