People of Lauri Gewog now get G2C online services

Obtaining security, environmental and forestry clearances, and registration of birth certificate and other official documents are now a matter of click on the mouse for the villagers of Lauri Gewog, Samdrup Jongkhar.

This has been made possible with the recent installation of internet facilities at community information centre in the gewog. Earlier, to get the work done, farmers travelled some 60 kilometres to Jomotshangkha Drungkhag, which was financially taxing for them.  But now, villagers said, the internet services have made things much easier and simpler for them.

“We go to Samdrup Jongkhar town and Jomotshangkha to process for security clearance and other documents. But of late, we didn’t have to travel outside our village. These works are done online now,” said Sonam, Jamtsho, one of the residents there.

Gewog officials also said the internet has facilitated them to provide G2C services on time.

“Earlier, for birth registration, all the documents are filled up in the gewog and then forwarded to the dzongkhag where documents are misplaced, leading to many drop out cases for census,” said Tenzin, the Mangmi of Lauri Gewog. However, now we are able to provide services on time without complications, he added.

Apart from online services, the community information centre provides offline services such as printing, photo-copying, and scanning documents. It also caters to people of Serthig and Langchenphu gewogs. Samdrup Jongkhar now has 11 community information centres with internet services.
