15 lecturers from hospitality institutes trained as CHE

Lack of professional trainers, courses, and training institutes are some of the major challenges the Tourism Industry in Bhutan is facing today. This is according to the Training Needs Assessment conducted by the Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) last year.

To address the issue, 15 lecturers from the Royal Institute for Tourism and Hospitality (RITH), and private tourism institutes were trained as Certified Hospitality Educators (CHE) in the capital. The training, conducted for the first time, was intended for lecturers on how to teach, plan syllabus, and conduct exam in the tourism training centres.

“As the world comes to know about what Bhutan is all about, more tourists will travel to country and they better services from hotels, from all the tourism sectors like guides,” said Gladvin Rego, the training facilitator. “All these can be developed only through good manpower which is possible if lecturers are good enough.”

The training was also conducted to produce master trainers in hospitality in the country. To be a certified master trainer, participants have to pass the examination, conducted by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute. If they fail the first examination, they will two more chances to pass the exam.

“They give a lot of platform to build our confidence, to build our personality and at the same time they have given us lot of tips on how to conduct class. It was like a refresher course to me and since all of us are from the hospitality background, we got to learn from each other also,” said one of the participants, Sital Pradhan.

TCB in collaboration with the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute conducted the four-day training on Train The Trainers which ended yesterday.
