Entrepreneurship training for youth in Trongsa

To imbibe an entrepreneurial mindset among youth and address unemployment issues, and to perk up the local economy, a two-week long Entrepreneurship Training Programme for out-of-school-youth is underway in Trongsa.

As part of the training exercise, the participants formed mini mart and showcased various commercial products at the Farmers’ Market near the Trongsa town, yesterday. It was themed “Creation of Entrepreneurs through Formation of Enterprise.”

This business oriented training’s objective is to empower youth to widen their horizons.

“This training has familirised them about entrepreneur skills. It becomes easier for them to explore opportunities rather than sit at home and dream of having a desk job,” said Dhan Kumar, the trainer.

This is the third such training held in Trongsa and about 64 school leavers were trained so far.

“For business startups, we have to get loans. So, now I know which banks provide loans at low interest rates as well as high rates. We also learned about business risks and ways to overcome it,” said one of the participants, Sangay Wangchuk.

For some other participants, who have concrete business plans, the training has been even more helpful.

“Few of us are now planning to take up organic farming business, as we knew about the sources of loans or any assistance required for the initial startup of the business. We also acquired the knowledge of marketing strategies, and salesmanship qualities,” said Lozang Dema.

Trongsa Dzongkhag Administration and the Labour Ministry in collaboration with Thimphu TechPark are organising this entrepreneurial training. Similar training was held in eight dzongkhags so far.
