Personal protective equipment for firefighting agencies

The Department of Disaster Management has handed over Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to different agencies involved in firefighting.

The Department of Forests and Park Services organises Interagency Forest Fire Coordinating Group. It was provided with 15 VHF communication sets.

The Royal Bhutan Police (RBP), Royal Bhutan Army (RBA), DeSuung and Disaster Communication and Helpline Unit were provided with 1,500 numbers of masks, safety goggles and hand gloves.

The disaster management officials said the distribution of PPE and VHF communication sets is initiated in response to His Majesty The King’s deep concern for the safety of the firefighters.

“During forest fires, the safety of the people has to come first and the personal protective equipment needs to be given to those who respond to forest fires,” said Pema Singye, the Chief Programme Officer of the Department of Disaster Management.

The equipment, worth over Nu 1 m, was bought under the Japan Policy and Human Resource Development Project.
