PM asks project officials to speed up construction of Pema Gatshel Dzong

Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay visited the construction site of Pema Gatshel Dzong while en route to gewogs in Monggar today. Lyonchhen examined the work and expressed his concerns over the seemingly slow progress of the dzong construction.

Prime Minister instructed the supervisors and labourers to accelerate the work and complete it on time. However, officials of the dzong construction project informed the Prime Minister that they have extended the deadline to July, 2020 since Home Ministry took time to send the revised design map of the dzong’s Utse. Actually, the dzong was supposed to be complete by next year.

More than 50 per cent of the work has been complete which includes erecting Utse, construction of two administrative blocks, dratsha and main entrance gate.

The entire project is worth of Nu 530m and is funded by the Government of India. Prime Minister also assessed the restoration works of Yongla Goenpa which is nearing its completion. Remaining works like building of butter lamp offering room and installing water pipes are yet to be complete.

Yongla Goenpa was struck by an earthquake in 2009 and its initial renovation works began in 2011.  Nu 129m will have to be spent to complete restoring the Goenpa.
