The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has charged a 47-year-old man with a second degree felony for raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl student.
The OAG forwarded the case to the Thimphu District Court today. The victim is a relative of the suspect’s wife. The alleged rape reportedly took place at the suspect’s house in Thimphu.
The situation came to light after the girl fell sick six and a half months after the incident. She was taken to hospital by her mother and teachers and that’s when the girl was found to be pregnant. The case was then reported to the police.
If convicted, the suspect would face a prison term of nine to 15 years.
