Trongsa dzong renovation works to complete before deadline

The ongoing renovation works at the Trongsa Dzong is expected to complete ahead of schedule. About 80 per cent of the renovation work is already been completed.

The project deadline is March next year but the project manager, Tshewang Rinzin, said the works are set to complete before March.

The renovation works had to be carried out after some parts of the dzong’s wall was damaged in 2013. Labour scarcity was a problem when the works began but thanks to the people of five gewogs in the dzongkhag who contributed labour, the works went on smoothly.

“The dzong is very important for all of us and we were very sad when the dzong was damaged,’ said Chimmi Dorji, a worker at the renovation site.

“We are glad that the people and the government together have restored the dzong.”

The renovated parts of the dzong will serve as residential quarters for the lams and house important relics.

The renovation is being carried out with Nu 30 m from the Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority. The project has proposed for another Nu 10 m to the project to carry out additional repairs.
