Jamkhar GC road blacktopped

The blacktopping of Jamkhar Gewog Centre road in Trashi Yangtse has been completed. The road benefits over 350 households in the gewog.

Villagers are happy that they no longer have to endure the bumpy rides to and from their gewog, particularly during monsoon.

The six-kilometer road was built more than a decade ago and was in a bad shape prior to blacktopping. “It was filled with potholes,” said Karma, a villager.

The blacktopping of the road has reduced the travel time to half an hour from one hour. The improved road will enable farmers transport their farm produce to the market with much ease.

“Earlier, because of the bad road condition, we could not take all our farm produce to the market,” said Sonam Tobgay, another villager.

“The little that we took to the market had to be carried either by ourselves or the horses. Now, this problem is solved.”

Taking the sick to the hospital will also become easier. “We can now reach the seriously ill people to Trashigang hospital in about half an hour,” said Karma.

The blacktopping works were funded by the Government of India.

With the blacktopping of Jamkhar Gewog Centre road, five of the eight Gewog Centre roads in Trashi Yangtse are now blacktopped. Till date, the Department of Roads has blacked about 27 kilometres of road in total in the dzoingkhag.
