A woman was airlifted to the national referral hospital in Thimphu from Bumthang yesterday morning after she was mauled by a bear on October 1.
The incident happened at a nearby forest in Kharsa village under Chhoekhor Gewog.
The woman along with three other villagers were returning home after picking mushroom from the forest when they encountered the bear along with cubs.
The bear is said to have chased them and hurt the victim when she stumbled while escaping. She suffered two deep cuts and fractures on her facial bones. The woman underwent a surgery yesterday and is said to be in stable condition.
