The National Open Badminton Championship ended yesterday in the capital. More than 70 participants from across the country took part in the championship. The participants include athletes, students, and civil servants. They competed in six different categories.
The winners were awarded with cash prizes and certificates. Bhutan Badminton Federation organises the championship yearly.
The annual Thimphu inter-departmental volleyball tournament began yesterday. Seventeen teams are participating in the tournament of which six are for the women’s category. The Bhutan Volleyball Federation is organising the tournament to promote the sport in the country The finals will be played on October 8.
In Trashigang, Gongthung FC won the first Post-monsoon Open Football tournament. In the finals played on October 1, they defeated Namay Brothers from Khaling in a penalty shootout. Twenty teams including those from as far as Pema Gatshel and Samdrup Jongkhar took part in the tournament.
