ACC asks Chairman of Duty free to revoke appointment of 10 employees

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked the Chairman of the Bhutan Duty Free to cancel the appointment of ten officials and recommended to fix accountability on its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for supervisory lapses.

The commission, after an investigation found that the officials were recruited last year without fulfilling the employment criteria. ACC in its letter sent earlier this month to the Chairman and the CEO, asked for strict administrative action against the responsible officials.

The commission also asked the chairman to take appropriate action against the four members on the selection panel for failing to follow due process. The officials were recruited for the post of Deputy General Manager, Marketing Manager, Finance Manager and Sale Executives. It was found that they did not fulfill the terms of reference, which stated that applicants should have a minimum of 65 percent in degree with not less than 65 percent in class X and XII.

Meanwhile, the chairman said the board submitted a report to the commission on 29 September. If ACC is not satisfied with the decision of the board, they will take actions on its own as per the ACC act. The commission initiated the investigation following two anonymous letters and a walk-in complaint about the issue. Bhutan Duty Free Limited is a new state enterprise established in May last year.
