The Lhuentse District Court has sentenced a man and two women for illegal possession of tobacco products last month. All three were caught carrying tobacco products beyond the permissible amount.
The man, who is 48-year-old, was sentenced to 11 months in prison. He can, however, pay in lieu of prison sentence. As per the court’s judgement, the man is also liable to pay a fine of Nu 3, 70,000.
One of the women was sentenced to a compoundable prison term of five months and 15 days. Dissatisfied with the verdict, she has appealed to the High Court.
The other women have been sentenced to a compoundable prison term of two months. The court also asked her to pay Nu 16,000 in fines.
