While defecating in open is a concern at the ongoing Kanjur oral transmission at Kuensel Phodrang in Thimphu, waste management is not. An informal committee, Duedroi Rawang Zhidhey Tshogchung conducted a cleaning campaign in the area this morning.
The group gathered few cartoons boxes and sacks. This is because even devotees living in temporary sheds nearby the area have managed their wastes properly, leaving behind nothing much to be cleaned. “We thought since many people are congregating here, there will be too much wastes being generated but during a cleaning exercise, it is rare sight to see the place flooded with wastes,” said Tashi Dargay, the coordinator of the cleaning campaign.
Other cleaning mates also said they are pleasantly surprised to spot not much wastes around the area.”We came here since it is a cleaning programme. We assumed there will be more wastes dumped everywhere but we were wrong,” said Tashi Yoezer Wangchuk.
Some members of Duedroi Rawang Zhidhey Tshogchung came all the way from Wangduephodrang to take part in the cleaning exercise.
“I heard Duedroi Rawang Zhidhey Tshogchung is organising a cleaning campaign, so I came here to take part in it. The cleanliness is well maintained, still than we did our little part in some areas,” said Choeten T Tshomo, Member, Duedroi Rawang Zhidhey Tshokchung
Duedroi Rawang Zhidhey Tshogchung is an informal association, formed three years ago, to create awareness to the people on becoming vegetarians.
