PM in New York for the General Debate of 72nd session of UNGA

The Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay is in New York, leading a Bhutanese delegation to the General Debate of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The Prime Minister is accompanied by the Foreign Minister Damcho Dorji and senior officials from the Foreign Ministry.

The 72nd session of the General Assembly is themed “Focusing on people: striving for peace and a decent life for all on a sustainable planet.”

Prime Minister will deliver a statement on September 22. He will also be holding several bilateral meetings with senior UN officials and participate in a number of events including the Bloomberg Business Forum on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

Yesterday, Lyonchhen met with the Indian External Minister Sushma Swaraj, Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the President of the European Council. Later in the evening, he met with the President and the office bearers of the United Bhutanese Association in New York.

On his way, the Prime Minister attended Bhutan For Life initiative in Bangkok on September 14. Bhutan For Life is an important initiative towards protecting the pristine environment. The prime Minister also addressed the participants of Singapore Summit 2017 on September 16.

The 72nd UN General Assembly that began on September 12 in New York will end on September 25.
