U19 cricket team defeated by Nepal’s team

Bhutan’s under 19 cricket team suffered a nine wicket defeat at the hands of Nepal, today. This is Bhutan’s second straight defeat at the ongoing ACC under 19 Eastern Region Cup in Malaysia.

In what was a David versus Goliath contest, Bhutan did not stand a chance against the Nepalese side who absolutely battered Thailand in their earlier match. However, the former showed some courage at the toss when they opted to bat first knowing the latter’s exploits with the bowl.

Like the match against Singapore, despite getting bowled out for a paltry score of 50 runs, Bhutan dug deep and batted until the 28th over. Captain Tashi Phuntsho faced 11 overs for his 16 runs while the other batter in double figures, Ugyen Dorji, faced seven overs for his 13 runs.

In reply, Nepal wasted no time in chasing down the target. Despite losing a wicket, it took just 8.3 overs for Nepal to seal the win and book a place in the semifinals. Bhutan will now look to salvage some pride when they play against Thailand in the final group game tomorrow.
