Denchhi thromde to take its course from September

The urban developmental works of Pema Gatshel’s Dzongkhag Thromde in Denchhi will start from September, this year. The Works and Human Settlement Minister Dorji Choden shared the news to the business members of Pema Gatshel on Friday.

Lyonpo Dorji Choden told the business community that, “It has been long since works to develop Denchhi town had not begun. But now, we will start the works and people here must cooperate with all the stakeholders involved with the town development.”

The Dzongkhag Municipal is soon going to develop basic urban amenities in Denchhi such as internal road networks, water supply, and electricity installations.  About Nu 50 M has been allocated for these works.

Lyonpo Dorji Choden also approved shopkeepers’ proposal to build basement of the commercial structures. However, the buildings must strictly be of two floors excluding the basement. The decision was taken during the minister’s previous meeting with the business community in January, this year. That time, Lyonpo Dorji Choden explained to the people that such rule was framed after exploring all the positive aspects of the township.

“There is no other source of income in Pema Gatshel, so for tourist attraction, the rule of double storied traditional house was made. Also, the size of each plot is way bigger than those in other thromdes.”

Denchhi town has been divided into 49 plots. Of that 27 have already been allotted to the plot owners and the remaining 22 are still being worked out by the stakeholders.

During the meeting, some local leaders also requested for the blacktopping of Ngangma-Pema Gatshel feeder road. Minister agreed to blacktop not the entire stretch but seven kilometres of the road where there are more settlements. And the work will be done during the current plan period(11th five year plan).

Denchhi was declared as Pema Gatshel’s Dzongkhag Thromde during the parliament session in 2015.
