Singye Geog cut off

The suspension bridge over Sisty Khola in Sisty village under Sarpang dzongkhag collapsed following continuous rainfall over the past one week. The bridge is the lifeline of Singye Geog, which is six kilometres away from Sarpang. It collapsed around 8:30 am on July 11.

The bridge benefits over 1,400 households in Singye Geog and 24 households under Hilley Geog. Our reporter Pema Samdrup says the people are still using the collapsed bridge to cross over to buy essential commodities. He said the pillars of the bridge are shaky and risky.

Despite that, people are using it as they don’t have an option.

Meanwhile, students on vacation are concerned that they may not be able to return to school. Geog officials said the bridge was recently renovated. They said with the bridge collapsed, it will hamper Geog development activities and re-building a bridge will take a long time.

Meanwhile, the Dzongkhag Authority and Geog Officials visited the site to see the possibilities of an alternative route.
