Thimphu City FC lifts this year’s Thimphu League

Thimphu City FC lifted this year’s Thimphu League and becomes the second team to successfully defend the league title after Yeedzin FC in 2010 and 2011.

Captain Tshering Dorji and company lifted the trophy as Thimphu City FC maintain their unbeaten run in the league to emerge victorious.

The matched played yesterday was a consolation for the champions as they had already confirmed their league win last week with a victory against High Quality United.

A 3-0 victory against Transport United yesterday was a fitting finale in what was a season dominated by Thimphu City from start to finish.  With the medals and trophy, a cash prize of Nu 400,000 was also awarded to the winner.

Ecstatic over the win, the Thimphu City FC’s Captain, Tshering Dorji said “I am happy with the league win and more so since no other teams in Thimphu could defeat us.”

The coach of the football club, Karun Gurung equally beamed with happiness and said “this year it was easy to win but to defend the title was hardest part. However, I think we did a good job by defending the title.”

Transport United came second best in the league with Thimphu FC coming in third position. They were awarded Nu 200,000 and 100,000 respectively along with medals and trophies. The champions and the two runner-up teams will now compete for the National League crown which starts in a week’s time.
