The government has decided that all existing teacher under the education ministry must have a master’s degree.
The upgradation in the teacher qualification, Lyonchhen said, is aimed at ensuring the quality of education in the country reaches greater heights.
Of the 8,869 teachers in the country today, only 1,130 have a master’s degree. Lyonchhen said the government will prepare plans and policies to enable the current teachers to have a minimum qualification of a master’s degree.
“For instance, from July, 30 teachers will begin their master’s programme at the Yongphula Centenary Institute of Education,” shared Lyonchhen Dasho Tshering Tobgay.
The government, Lyonchhen said, will also talk with Education colleges in Paro and Samtse to work towards the upgradation of the qualification of the existing teachers.
The government has allocated about Nu 108m to train teachers this year.
