6 men detained for murder

Phuentshogling Police Station

Police in Phuentshogling have arrested six men for an alleged involvement in a suspected murder of a young man from Ketogkha village under Bongo Gewog in Chhukha.

Of the six suspects, three are Bhutanese and the other three are Indian nationals. The alleged crime is believed to have been committed sometime in April.

The decomposed body of the 26-year-old murder victim was recovered from a forest in Hashimara in West Bengal, India, nearly two weeks after he was killed. Hashimara is about 18 kilometres away from Phuentshogling.

One of the suspects, who is from Getana in Chhukha, is said to have had personal grudge against the victim. It was learned that the suspects lured the deceased to Kalchini in Hashimara. They told the deceased that they needed him to pick a rice load. On the way, they murdered him and dumped his body in the forest.

They are also accused of having  sold the vehicle, a bolero, belonging to the deceased, to a buyer from across the border. But it is reported that the buyer has not paid them yet. Both the buyer and the vehicle could not be traced as well.

Phunetshogling Police said this is the first murder case to have taken place across the border involving Bhutanese, this year. Following investigations, police will forward the case to the Office of Attorney General for prosecution.
