BBIN Motor Vehicle Agreement deliberations deferred

The Parliament, today, deferred deliberations on Motor Vehicles Agreement for Regulation of Passenger, Personal and Cargo Vehicular Traffic between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Nepal (BBIN MVA).

A joint committee formed to discuss on fifteen objections raised by the National Council during last winter session could not come to a decision despite sitting for five meetings. The meetings could not answer the  objections raised by the National Council. Therefore, the committee proposed the joint-sitting to defer the agreement.

A news release from the Foreign Ministry on April 27 this year stated that the government had given consent for the implementation of BBIN MVA among the three member countries (Bangladesh, India and Nepal) only.

The decision, according to the release,  was made to facilitate early implementation of the agreement since the three countries have already ratified it.

Bhutan is in the process of completing its procedures for ratification, to address the concerns raised by the domestic stakeholders stated the release.
