Nov 24, 2011

The only synthetic track in the country is all set to open.

Located below the Yangchenphu Higher Secondary School in Thimphu, the 400 metre, six lane track is expected to open by February next year.

It was constructed at a cost of US$ 660,000.

Officials from the Bhutan Amateur Athletics Federation ( BAAF) said the national schools athletics competition will be held here during the summer break.

The track, which took more than two years to complete, has all the basic facilities required in track and field events.

A pavilion and an audience gallery are also expected to come up soon.
