The blacktopping works for 12 out of 14 Gewog Centre (GC) roads in Dagana will complete by the end of this financial year.
The Department of Roads (DoR) officials in Tsendagang said works for the remaining Khebisa and Largyab GC road will commence once the budget is confirmed.
“DoR has worked out the estimates for two GC roads, 18 kilometre Khebisa and 27 kilometre Largyab road. But works will be tendered out only once budget is confirmed,” said the Executive Engineer of DoR, Pema Choeda.
So far, 3 GC roads of Tashiding, Tsangkha and Lhamoi Dzingkha Gewogs have been blacktopped. By the end of next month, blacktopping of Dorona, Drukjeygang and Tseza GC roads are expected to be complete.
Meanwhile, the current blacktopping works are often stopped due to the rain. Contractors said they are worried as the monsoon started quite early in Dagana. The Dzongkhag has been experiencing light rain for about a week now.
“According to the work plan, we have to complete the works by May 25 and our goal is to complete before time. But we are worried that the rain might hamper the work progress,” shared the contractor, Kaka.
Government of India is funding the black topping works through Small Development Project.
