Pema Gatshel Dzongkhag declared malaria-free

Pema Gatshel became the second Dzongkhag after Samtse, to be recognised as malaria-free.

It has been more than three years since the Dzongkhag did not have any cases of malaria.

Health Secretary, Dr. Ugen Dophu awarded the malaria-free certificate to Pema Gatshel Dzongkhag, coinciding with the World Malaria Day celebrations in Nganglam, today.

The theme this year is End Malaria for Good.

The health ministry pledged to eliminate indigenous malaria in the country by 2018.

As part of the event, certificates were also awarded to the senior staff of Vector Borne Disease Control for their contribution to the programme. The staff, served for more than 30 years in the service.
