Batsmen struggle as Bhutan suffer a 154 runs defeat

Bhutan suffered a 154 runs defeat at the hands of host nation Thailand in the opening match of the ICC World Cricket League Division One Asia Qualifier. Thailand’s young bowling lineup chipped away with regular wickets preventing Bhutanese batsmen to get any foothold in the match.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the hero of the Thai batting innings was opener Wanchana Uisik. He carried the bat through the innings notching up a century in the process.

Middle order batsman Ryan Raina also chipped in with a half century, taking Thailand’s total to 235 for the loss of three wickets in 50 overs.

In reply, Bhutan lost opening batsman, Tenzin Wangchuk in the second over. Captain Jigme Singye tried counter attacking but was ultimately trapped leg before wicket while batting on 17 runs by Wanchana Uisik.

From then on, Bhutanese batsmen offered little resistance as they were bundled out for 81 runs in the 32nd over. Sonam Tobgay top scored for Bhutan with 24 runs.

In other matches, pre-tournament favourites Saudi Arabia crushed China to win the match by a mammoth score of 390 runs. Qatar also impressed as they defeated Kuwait by 150 runs.

Bhutan will play Qatar in their second match tomorrow at the Gymkhana, Chiangmai. Bhutan had earlier lost to Qatar in a practice match.
