Phuentsholing BOD faces cooking gas shortage

Oct 26, 2011

With the diwali puja around the corner, people in Phuentsholing have been rushing to the Bhutan Oil Distributors, BOD, to stock up on cooking gas, creating a supply shortage.

There are three LPG cooking gas distributors in Phuentsholing. The BOD is the biggest supplier.

The other two distributors have not been affected. The Bhutan Oil Distributors has been facing the problem for about two weeks now.

A senior BOD manager said the quota issued by the trade department also needs to be increased.

The three LPG cooking gas distributors are allowed to import only 32,000 cylinders in a month for Western region. This he said is not enough for the growing population.

He said they have written to the department requesting it to increase the quota by another 14,000 cylinders. The shortage however will not affect Thimphu.

The BOD gives priority to Thimphu since they are the biggest cooking gas distributor in the capital city.

The Phuentsholing BOD sells more than 5,000 LPG cooking gas per month.
