NA passes Bhutan Red Cross Society Bill

na-passes-bhutan-red-cross-society-billThe National Assembly passed the Bhutan Red Cross Society Bill, today. The act will help the public in times of calamities and natural disaster.

Red Cross Society is an international Civil Society Organization helping countries in times of calamities.

“With all the 44 members voting yes, we are now going to pass the Bhutan Red Cross Society bill 2016. In a country like ours, prone to natural calamities, the bill will be of immense benefit to overcome the challenges of disasters,” said the Speaker, Jigme Zangpo.

Bhutan Red Cross Society will be run by a group of volunteers as non-profit Civil Society organization.

The society will work towards improving the livelihood and well being of vulnerable people.

As per the bill, the Society will establish regional and district offices across the country if deemed necessary.

Parliamentarians also said the bill will sufficiently address manpower shortage to help nation in times of natural hazards.

The National Council endorsed the bill this summer.
