RAPA to formulate curriculum

rapa-to-formulate-curriculumStarting this year, trainees of the Royal Academy of Performing Arts (RAPA), upon completion of their courses, will be certified.

The academy has not certified a single trainee up until now.

RAPA was established 62 years ago.

The academy, in collaboration with labour ministry, is formulating a curriculum.

The standard to develop the curriculum was discussed during the five-day conference in Thimphu, which ended yesterday.

RAPA’s Research Officer, Kunzang Dorji said the graduates were not certified because there was no proper curriculum till now.

“Apart from dancing, performing mask dances, and music while at the institution, there were no opportunities for the trainees upon completion of their courses. The graduates could not earn a living outside the institution”.

A student will have to study at the academy for four years. They will be certified annually.

“With the help of the certificate, I see an opportunity for the graduates in the schools as culture instructors and culture officers in districts,” said an Artist with RAPA, Lhakpa Tshering.

The certificates will be recognized by Royal Civil Service Commission.

Over 100 trainees are waiting for the completion of their curriculum.
