Foul play suspected in young man’s death

Sep 14, 2011

A relative of the 24-year-old man, who was found dead near the Rigsum Institute earlier this month, has filed a request to the police asking for further investigation. The relatives said they suspect foul play.

The man, an employee of the Land Commission, was working in Pasakha. He had come to Thimphu to meet his family and attend a training.

A close relative said “there were signs of strangulation around the neck.”

Their suspicion was roused after they discovered that a ladies watch had been found in the crime scene.

The city police said their investigation team thoroughly checked the crime scene to rule out foul play. It says there was no sign of bodily injury.

The post mortem report from the hospital which had arrived in the City Police this morning also says it appears to be a natural death.

A few days ago, the person who conducted the medical examination said they don’t have the equipment or the expertise to conduct a proper post mortem.

City police says the case is not closed, and it is still under investigation.

A friend who was with him two days before his body was found said the deceased was carrying some money and a mobile phone- none of these items were recovered from the crime scene.
